Bhakti in Action!

Holy smokes!!! Great crowd at Unity of SRQ tonight for our weekly kirtan. We created amazing vibrations of sound, devotion and love. Above it all and part of it all, we raised $176.00 for the All Faiths Food Bank!!! Thank you all for your generosity and for sharing your hearts and voices. Thanks as well to Stevananda and Tej for leading beautiful chants and to Hukam for his rock solid drumming and support. I love you all and feel so very blessed for our SRQ kirtan community. And, last but certainly not least, thanks to Jen Canfield and the generous souls who fund the Call & Response Foundation for facilitating the creation of our weekly SRQ kirtan group…..and for paying the rent!!!  Jai Hanuman, Jai Sita Ram!!!

Jai Hanuman!

Very sweet night at Unity of SRQ for our weekly kirtan. We had a number of people who had never been there, including a couple of beautiful high school folks who expressed interest in evangelizing kirtan to their friends! We went deep and raised much needed funds for the All Faiths Food Bank – to help feed the needy kids of Sarasota and Desoto counties. Special thanks to Larry for his solid drumming and to all for singing the names of God with open hearts and lots of soul. I am truly blessed to know and chant with you. Thank you. Jai Ram!!!!

Thank You – Bhakti in Action

Thanks to all who have attended our first three Friday night kirtans at Unity of Sarasota.  So far we have raised almost $200 for the All Faiths Food Bank, which provides much needed food to the economically challenged people of Sarasota and Desoto counties.

Our kirtan practice is grounded in Bhakti Yoga, frequently defined as the yoga of devotion.  More importantly, perhaps, is the Seva (aka “service”) aspect of Bhakti, where we offer our efforts to help others as a prayer to our chosen Divinity.  Ultimately, that’s what these weekly kirtans are about, an opportunity to express gratitude in song and to share our blessings with those in need.

See you on the Path!  Ram Ram.  jb

Thank You

Wow! What an amazing beginning for our weekly kirtan at Unity of Sarasota!! Thanks to all who came out and shared your hearts and voices. It’s so nice to meet people that are new to our chanting community and to sing again with old friends. We also thank you for your generosity – we raised $87 for the All Faiths Food Bank! I am beyond grateful and surely blessed to know each and every one of you. Thank you Unity of Sarasota for your openness in allowing us to utilize such a wonderful space….with perfect acoustics. I hope to see you all again soon. Namaste. Joe

SRQ Weekly Kirtan Starts Friday, January 6 at 7pm @ Garden of the Heart Yoga!!!

Please come out and celebrate the first Call & Response Foundation – sponsored weekly kirtan event in Sarasota.  Joe Bruno will start things off at 7pm and all are encouraged to lead a chant of their own should they wish.  Musical ability is not important as this is not music but prayer set to song.  Hope to see you in the bhav (aka state of bliss).  Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram.

Year – End Community Kirtan at Prana Yoga & Healing

Kirtan is chanting and accessing our own sound vibration so our light shines.  Please join us on the day before New Year’s Eve to clear your mind of old thoughts and ” same ole’ song”. Chant your way into a New Year.

Kirtan chants will be lead by Steveananda as Prana Yoga will celebrate 5 years of monthly Kirtan with a year – end community gathering. We welcome back Joe Bruno who returns from holiday. The evening is open to all who wish to lead chants as well. Everyone is welcomed.

Please bring a desert to share.
No potluck this evening. We begin at 7:00pm.
We look forward to sharing the evening with you as we bless the coming year in song and dance to light your inner light to shine.

A Few Words on Bhakti Yoga

Namaste and blessings to our entire SRQ kirtan / chant community!
In the spirit of Bhakti, the yoga of devotion, love and service, I feel that it’s important to highlight one of the drivers underlying our new SRQ Weekly Community Kirtan – and that is charity.  At each weekly kirtan we’ll accept donations, which are optional, for the benefit of those in need.  On the first Friday of each month, at Garden of the Heart Yoga, we will collect funds for their Karma Yoga initiative which provides free yoga for Veterans and to those with Parkinson’s or Autism.  On the other Fridays, at Unity of Sarasota, we will collect money for The All Faiths Food Bank, who distribute tons of food each week to families and individuals in need.  This is a wonderful charity with which I am quite familiar.  I would also like to point out that over 50% of the children in Sarasota County receive assistance in terms of their food and nourishment needs.  Most people seem quite surprised when they hear this stat and no wonder given the stylish vibe of Sarasota.  So, please come and sing with us and let us count our own blessings while helping those in need.  Peace to all, life to all, love to all.  JB
